What I did last year

In our lessons, we've learnt the basic skills of good camera shots, the different camera angles, compoistion and positions that we can put into are productions and ones that will be excellent for our film.


preparing for our media filming project, we had to film a short film which included us setting up the camera on a tripod, and using different types angles and shots, remembering not to cross the 180 degree line unless panning. The 180 rule is justthe basic guideline that staes two people or objects in the same scene should always have the left/right relationship to eachother. Also in lessons we were taught to upload recordings on the Mac computers for editing and shown editing techniques including transition of image and sound for future recordings, which I will bring and involve in my production this year

Also including, for our final piece, we had to film a short sequence production lasting approx 2 mins. We did encounter a few problems like short time, so we had to minimise our locations on where we wanted to film.

Music Director-Ben Peters

We had a visit from a music director named Ben Peters. He talked and discussed with us his personal experience about being a music director and what he exactly does, also explaining to us what different roles people have and do on a music video set. He directed a couple of videos, his worked with N-dubz, Mz bratt Ma7ven and fenix and many more.

There are many roles people do on a music video set, like producing, wardrobe dressers and runners, who do not get paid. Runners just get an idea of how working on a set is and are just around to follow directors and any higher people to offer any assistants like buying them breakfast. He told us also that's how you really start in being an important person on the scene, if people like the job your doing for them they may recruit you to something more higher till you get key skills of doing what your doing.

Ben peters also showed us an example of an storyboard that he done for the N-dubz video. It contained a brief outline of the video,the story and then some images which involves with the story.

Introduction to production assignment

This year for our media production, we are to submit a Music promo including Cd cover/magazine advertising component and the video itself. We have to create, produce and distribute a new artist which we have to make a success to the public using media tools.

Music videos are short film or videos that accompanies a complete piece of music/song. It's helped to promote the artist (Marketing device) to be launched on high standard channels like MTV. Back in the day, around the 80's when MTV was released, rarely any black people where shown, from 1983 music videos went mainstream and a successful music video was released by Micheal Jackson song called 'Thriller' which lasted nearly 14 minutes long. Now MTV provides streams of music videos and helps increase song sales for artists.




An album cover is the front packinging of a commercially-released audio recording product. As a marking tool, the appeal of eye cathcing photography and graphic go hand in hand with Cd covers. The importance of a cover design is some artists gained fame through their work. An album cover usually has the sartist name,and the album title.
Digital downloading has changed practically every aspect of making and marketing music. Simlicity seems to work well in todays online market.hers an example of one album cover by beyonce which proves it:

One of my personally favouite album covers of all time is by keyshia cole ' A different me'.
The cover is also simple including the artists name the song of the album and a eye-catching photograph of the artist. It coveys the artistic aspirations of the artist

For the Artist we are going to create, I would like to create a simply album cover like this to promote the artist. It's neat and doe not over crowd the cover page. Its still eye-catching because of the details on the cover and the artist herself. Its an expression of artistic intent.
